Seb is a PhD student at Lancaster University’s Centre for Digital Innovation. His background is in business strategy with particular interest of decision making processes in planning. In his PhD, Sebastian researches participatory practices in urban development planning related to PPGIS (public participation geographical information systems) and volunteered personal data. At Ubicomp’12 (the prime venue for research on ubiquitous computing) he discussed data management challenges in distributed sensing infrastructures. He is interested in the public space of data, data commons, and how these might support urban development planning. For his doctorate, Sebastian undertakes a number of qualitative case studies under the umbrella of PlaceChangers.
